Open an Excel file without installing Excel
Opening a spreadsheet normally means owning Microsoft Excel or signing into an Office account. That is a lot of friction when all you want is to read what is inside a file someone sent you. What you see when the file opens
The file opens on a data grid showing your rows and columns exactly as they are stored. Each column header carries a small type label — number, date or text — so you can tell at a glance whether a column Excel shows as "1,240" is a real number or text that merely looks numeric. That distinction is the usual reason a later import or formula misbehaves.
Rows are paginated rather than dumped all at once, so a file with tens of thousands of rows stays responsive. A search box filters across every column at once, which is the fastest way to answer "is this invoice number in here?" without scrolling. .xls and .xlsx are both supported
Two formats share the Excel name. The modern .xlsx has been the default since Excel 2007 and is a zipped XML package. The legacy .xls is the older binary format, and it is still what many accounting packages, bank portals and government systems export today.
Plenty of online viewers quietly handle only .xlsx and fail on .xls. This one reads both, using a separate parser for each, so a file exported from a decade-old system opens the same way a file saved yesterday does. You do not need to convert an old file before viewing it.
Your file is not stored
The file is uploaded, parsed and returned as data. It is not written to permanent storage, not indexed and not shared. Your file history lives in your own browser, so clearing site data removes it, and someone opening the site on another machine sees nothing of yours.
That said, apply the same judgement you would to any online tool. For files under a strict confidentiality or regulatory obligation, use the software your organisation has approved.
